During this very active year of increased testing thanks to HUD distributing lots of money to advocacy groups, large penalty awards and new legislation affecting fair housing compliance in many jurisdictions, it’s difficult to pause, take stock of the changes and how they inform our operations and create compliant solutions.
This session will allow you to take a deep breath, look at some outrageous fair housing violations (and penalties) and review some of the new laws about falsifying assistive animals status and not being able to check criminal backgrounds. We’ll review some of the most common compliance missteps and learn how to avoid them and we’ll focus on how to be more proactive in our compliance efforts.
As a Multifamily professional, ensuring fair housing practices is a critical aspect of your role. However, navigating complex laws and regulations can be overwhelming. This informative webinar will empower you with the knowledge and tools to provide equal housing opportunities, avoid costly mistakes, and foster a inclusive community by discovering how to:
Recognize and avoid discriminatory practices; handle reasonable accommodation requests with confidence; create a culture of inclusivity and diversity and stay up-to-date on fair housing laws and regulations.
You will gain increased awareness of recurring fair housing issues and suggested strategies for effective compliance; be able to evaluate current training programs for effectiveness and examine company culture to discover potential weakness regarding fair housing compliance.
You’ll be able to evaluate policies for specific compliance with Disparate Impact, specifically criminal background checks and source of income; review recent complaints and court cases for guidance in formulating and enforcing compliance policies and learn how to comply with current HUD theory about occupancy standards.
